About Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy is a traditional medicine based on nature’s law of cure. The homoeopathic system of medicine was discovered by German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. The word Homoeopathy comes from the Greek word Homoeo-“Similar” and Pothos-“Suffering”.
The fundamental principles and philosophy of Homoeopathy were discussed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in different edition of ‘Organon of Medicine and Philosophy’ published in 1810.
Homoeopathic medicines are prepared by special process called drug dynamization or potentization by which the medicinal properties which are latent in natural substances while in their crude state become awakened and developed into an incredible degree.
This include two process –
1. Trituration – when substances are insoluable
2. Succussion – when substances are soluable
Homoeopathy uses minimum doses of medicine to stimulate the vital force of our body. Then our body itself trying to recover from the disease condition. The duty of our medicine is to stimulate our vital force to recover from sick.
Selection of homoeopathic medicine is based on totality of symptoms. It means all the symptoms produced by the person are to be considered. Homoeopathy treating the person in disease not only the disease. As a holistic medicine both mental and physical symptoms are to be considered for selection of medicine.
In the case of chronic disease (disease of long duration) history of past illness, family history, cause of illness(may be emotional or physical), nature and peculiarities of person etc should be considered. Mental and emotional level of person should be considered.
In the case of acute disease(disease with sudden onset ) presentation of disease symptom, reaction of person during illness, cause of disease etc should be considered.
Mind and body are not two absolutely separate entities but they form an invisible whole. Majority of illness are psychosomatic. The disturbances in mind or mental upset leads to the physical level and causes disease in a person. In some cases, physical illness causes some emotional upset in a person meaning their mind and body are interconnected. According to Dr. Hahnemann, symptoms are the outwardly reflected picture of the internal essence of the disease.
